Detroit celebrated the first day of
fall on Sunday, Sept. 22, with fun-
filled Family Fall Festivals for residents
and family members at its six commu-
nities in West Bloomfield and Oak Park.
The action-packed events were planned
by the life enrichment directors at each
building.
“Our amazing staff always outdoes
themselves to create memorable moments
and expand the horizons for our wonder-
ful residents and their loved ones,” said
Nancy Siegel Heinrich, CEO of JSL.
“Special events and shared activities
like these bring everyone together and
strengthen the bonds at our communi-
ties.”
On the West Bloomfield campus,
Russian bottle dancers dressed in tradi-
tional costumes wowed guests at Meer
Apartments as they danced and per-
formed. Caricature artists captured the
essence of residents and their families
with their uncanny drawings. A speaker
from the Michigan Avian Experience
spoke to a packed audience in the dining
room about three different birds of prey
that perched on her arm, spread their
wings and made plenty of noise.
Magician Jason Abbott showed off his
sleight of hand to the delight of a cap-
tivated audience in the dining room at
Hechtman Apartments. Residents and
their family members also enjoyed the
birds of prey presentation, and young
children had fun having their faces paint-
ed.
At Fleischman Residence, violinist
Henrik Karapetyan played beautiful
music, a petting zoo with an alpaca and
other animals was a huge hit, and res-
idents and family members decorated
pumpkins, played games, took playful
photos holding masks in front of a fall
backdrop and had caricatures drawn.
At JSL’s Oak Park campus, families and
the residents of Prentis Apartments, Teitel
Apartments and Coville Assisted Living
and Memory Care came together for one
big party that included a petting zoo, face
painting, balloon art, dancing to music
played by an onsite DJ, and delicious
cider and donuts.
