Adat Shalom Synagogue will 
celebrate Bukharian Jewry with 
Ruben Shimonov, scholar and 
artist in residence at the Ray 
Maisel Global Jewish Diversity 
Shabbat. Shimonov is an educator, 
community builder and social 
entrepreneur, passionate about 
Jewish diversity and intercultural 
understanding. Shabbat and 
weekend events include Friday, 
Nov. 22, 5 pm Shabbat Rocks; 
dedication of the Bukharian 
Jewish Textile exhibit donated 
by Dr. Harry Maisel in loving 
memory of the late Ray Maisel; 
catered Shabbat dinner; 7:45 
pm presentation by Ruben 
Shimonov, “Along the Silk Roads 
to Jerusalem: A Voyage Into 
Bukharian Jewish History and 
Culture.” Saturday, Nov. 23, noon 
presentation by Ruben Shimonov, 
“Sephardic? Mizrahi? Exploring 
Terminology That Will Deepen 
Our Understanding of Jewish 
Diversity;” Havdalah, Wine and 

Art with The Well (ages 21-40) at 
7 pm; Sunday, Nov. 24, 10:30 am 
multigenerational presentation 
and hands-on art experience, 
“Katuv/Maktoub: An Exploration 
of Hebrew, Arabic and Persian
