Correction
The obituary for Joyce Adelman
(Oct. 17) should have indicated
that she is survived by her brother
and sister-in-law, Jerry and Brenda
Chudler.

A

son of former Detroiters,
Sgt. Maj. (Res.) Yishai
(Netanel) Greenbaum, 38,
succumbed to wounds from combat
in Lebanon, according to media
reports. “This Shabbat, the world
lost one of its dearest people,” Sgt.
Maj. Greenbaum’s wife, Hadas, was
quoted in the Oct. 19 Jerusalem
Post.
A resident of Lod, Sgt. Maj.
Greenbaum was wounded critically
on Oct. 9, 2024. A platoon sergeant
in the 5030th battalion of the 208th
“Alon” Brigade, he was a social
worker specializing in treating
soldiers suffering from trauma,
according to an X post by his
cousin, Amit Mandelbaum.
According to Dov Lipman’s X
feed, his organs were donated to
save the lives of five Israelis.
“We part with immense
appreciation from our brother in
arms who fell while fighting for the
protection of the people and the
land,” said Maj. Bar Tzarfati, his
platoon commander, in his eulogy
at his funeral on Oct. 20 at Mount
Herzl Military Cemetery..
“We stand together and grieve
your departure. He was one of the
cornerstones of the platoon. Thank
you for knowing how to say the
right words and lift the spirits of
your soldiers
“How much we went through
together in the past year, so many
reserve days, and even survived
together from a UAV explosion
near us, in the same event. I
understood how much of a hero
you are when you began providing
treatment to soldiers to prevent
future trauma,” he said, continuing
as he turned to the family. “A hero

father. Yishai, a hero of Israel.”
His parents, Tobi and Ofer
Greenbaum, along with their
daughter Yessca, were morim/
teachers at Farber Hebrew Day
School 15 years ago.
Since the start of the war, the
IDF has released the names of
748 soldiers killed, including 355
who were killed during ground
operations in Gaza that began at
the end of October 2023. The total
number of wounded soldiers since
the onset of the war stands at 4,969,
including 744 suffering serious
injuries.
In addition to his wife, Hadas,
parents, Tobi and Ofer Greenbaum,
and siblings, Sgt. Maj. Greenbaum
is survived by four children, the
youngest of whom is 5 months old.
