to see where this music can go.

Do you think Beat could become
a recording entity as well?
Levin: We’re talking about that.
We have shows through December,
and there will be some stuff next

year, but I don’t know what yet. And
if I’ve learned anything from doing
interviews it’s not to be foolish
enough to predict what will happen
a year or two in the future.
Fripp has said King Crimson is
finished. Do we believe him?
Levin: (laughs) I don’t think I
have a worthwhile opinion. Robert
said it’s done, but he also said King
Crimson could speak to (him) in
the future. So, like any fan, I hope
there’s more, even if I’m not in it
because I am a fan of King Crimson,
and if I’m in it, all the better. And
if I’m not, that’s the way it goes.
It looks currently like Robert’s
engrossed and very busy in other
things and not tempted to do anoth-
er King Crimson but, hey, it’s rock
‘n’ roll and it’s the future. You never
know.
It was great having new Peter
Gabriel shows and music last year.

Has he said anything about any
more of that on the horizon?
Levin: Not to me — and I ask
a lot because the i/o Tour was so
moving, so special, just great music
and a great band and, again, I’m a
fan and, like any fan, I hope there’s
more. There’s not talk of more now
but that doesn’t mean there won’t
be. But I do know there’s nothing
in the first half of 2025 because I
would have had to have been called
it for it by now.
What’s on tap for you in the near
future?
Levin: Next March, my band the
Stickmen will tour Europe, and
whatever we do with Beat. And
beyond that, next year has a whole
bunch of question marks and holds.
I think all freelance musicians like
me have a different degree of pen-
ciling something in or chiseling it
in rock, and even the ones that are

chiseled in stone don’t necessarily
happen.
What is there that you’d still like
to do that you haven’t yet?
Levin: I don’t think in those
terms. I have a list of projects that
I want to do, and I found with this
new album and the photo book I
did a few years ago that if I don’t put
it on top of the list years will go by
and I might never do it. So, there
are a number of books, photo proj-
ects and, yes, another album is also
on that list. Being in a band is fan-
tastic; that’s my favorite thing. But a
collaboration where you get together
and write new music is special and
we value that, I hope there will be
more of that in my future.
You have a very sensible
outlook on all of this.
Levin: Well, after about a
gazillion years of doing it, I should
know it works.

“I LISTEN TO THE
PIECE OF MUSIC
AND, IN SOME
DEEP PART OF MY
BRAIN THAT I’M
HARDLY AWARE
OF, I FASHION A

SOUND. ”
