Mumford 75th Anniversary Celebration

The Samuel C. Mumford High
School Alumni Association is
presenting a 75th Anniversary
Celebration and Hall of Fame Gala,
honoring Mumford’s legacy of
excellence and community impact.
The featured gala will take
place 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at
MGM Grand Hotel
in Detroit, with a VIP
reception at 6 p.m.
The gala is part of a
weekend-long celebra-
tion.
The Hall of Fame
Gala will recognize
distinguished alumni,
faculty and staff who have made
significant contributions to the
school and their fields.
A highlight will be the Hall of
Fame Induction Ceremony, hon-
oring 14 outstanding individuals
whose achievements in areas such
as academics, athletics, arts and
community service have brought
pride to Mumford High. Included
in the honorees are boxing manag-

ing legend Jackie Kallen, prominent
attorney Sam Bernstein, business-
man and community leader Joel D.
Tauber, and musician and compos-
er of TV theme songs Bruce Miller.
The cost of the gala is $150

National Council of Jewish Women,
Michigan (NCJW|MI), a grassroots
organization of volunteers and advo-
cates committed to social justice and a
call for action, is hosting
Fall Focus, a discussion
event on Monday, Oct. 28,
at 7 p.m. titled “Israel in
the Media.”
The event, which
will be held at Temple
Shir Shalom in West
Bloomfield, aims to
address bias in the media’s
coverage of Israel. The
discussion will be mod-
erated by the president of
Oakland University, Dr.
Ora Hirsch Pescovitz.
Featured speaker Gil
Hoffman, executive
director and editor of
HonestReporting, will
analyze stories, articles,
opinion pieces and images
that appear in the media’s

coverage of Israel.
The mission of HonestReporting is
to ensure truth, integrity and fairness,
and to combat ideological prejudice
in journalism and the media, as it
impacts Israel.
At the event, Dani Gillman,
NCJW|MI board member, will be
honored with the NCJW|MI Advocacy
Award. In addition to Dani’s impres-
sive list of achievements and contri-
butions to the community beyond
NCJW|MI, she states, “I am extremely
proud of some of the work I’ve done
with NCJW|MI, especially creating the
Gillman Chutz Family Comfort Care
Kit Fund, ensuring that anyone exer-
cising their right to an abortion knows
they’re not alone and they’re entitled
to comfort and care during a difficult
time.”
