died Oct. 12, 2024. 
Ms. Sands is survived 
by her sister, Lynn

Dian and Alan White. 
She was the loving daughter of 
the late Harry and the late Fayanne 
Sands.

NANCY SHALIT, 92, 
of West Bloomfield, 
died Oct. 12, 2024. 
She was a founding 
member of the 
Birmingham Temple 
and dedicated her life to humanist 
causes. As an independent editor 

and wordsmith, she took great 
pride in helping others publish 
their work. She will be remembered 
by her family and many friends 
whose lives she touched. 
She is survived by her daughter 
and son-in-law, Laurie M. Ross 
(Mark Watt); stepsons, Steve and 
Andy Shalit; other loving family 
members and friends, including 
Julie Colish and her family, the 
Marko family, Rosanne Chester, 
Karen Mills, Daphne and Joel 
Feldman, Cary Levy, Phyllis 
Mutnick, Rafi Fridman, and Julius 
and Suzanne Giarmarco. 
Nancy was wife of the late Larry 
Shalit and the late Sheldon Ross; 
mother of the late Robert E. Ross; 
the daughter of the late Edward and 
Thelma (Indictor) Silver.

Hill Park Cemetery in Birmingham.
