HARRIET
JACOBSON, 80, of
West Bloomfield, died
on Oct. 9, 2024.
Harriet, a beloved
figure in both the
Detroit Jewish community and
global magic world, passed
away peacefully after a short but
courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Detroit on Sept. 26, 1944,
Harriet grew up in the city before
moving to Huntington Woods,
where she met her high school
sweetheart and future husband,
Michael. Together, they made their
home in West Bloomfield.
One of Harriet’s greatest
passions was magic. She began her
involvement by assisting her son
in the late 1970s. In the decades
that followed, she performed as a
magician herself and as an assistant
to her husband. Widely known
as one of the magic community’s
most dedicated supporters, Harriet
served as ambassador for the
American Museum of Magic and
was active in organizations such
as International Brotherhood of
Magicians, Society of American
Magicians and London’s Magic
Circle. In 2024, Harriet was
inducted into the Michigan Magic

Hall of Fame.
Harriet was also deeply involved
in the Jewish community, serving
as president of the Michigan region
of ORT in the 1980s and remaining
an active member. She was an avid
traveler and visited many countries,
creating lifelong memories with
family and friends — including her
school friend, Carole Ebner, with
whom she had been planning many
more adventures.
Harriet’s spirit, resilience and love
will forever live on in her family
and the countless lives she touched.
Harriet was predeceased by her
husband, Michael Jacobson; and her
parents, Herman and Betty Bloom.
She is survived by her son,
Matthew Jacobson; daughter-in-law,
Leigh Jurecka; cherished grandson,
Levi; her brother, Bill Bloom, and
his wife, Beverly; their son, Jason
and his wife, Margot, and their
children, Josh and Alexa.
Interment was at Clover Hill
Park Cemetery. Contributions may
be made to American Museum
of Magic, 107 E. Michigan
Ave., Marshall, MI 49068,
