— the Women’s Zionist Organization
of America; the Hadassah Medical
Organization (Hadassah’s nonprofit
medical center in Jerusalem); and the
more than 10,000 Hadassah members
in the region, by presenting her with
the 2024 Woman of Inspiration Award
along with a challah board, hand-
carved in Israel and inscribed with the
name of the event.
At a pre-event reception, Nancy
received a certificate of recognition for
her work on behalf of Hadassah’s Youth
Aliyah program, whose campus-like
youth villages in Israel offer a home,
an education and wraparound sup-
port services for at-risk youth without
regard to race, religion or nationality.
The certificate was given to Nancy by
Youth Aliyah co-chairs Marcie Natan
and Michelle Rubin, who surprised
Nancy by flying in from Chicago.
“Hadassah is a commitment my hus-
band, Larry, and I make together,
” said
Nancy, who continues her work on
Hadassah’s behalf by sitting on several
national committees. “
An important
principle for us is Hadassah’s dedica-
tion to improving the lives of others
without regard to race, religion or
nationality. Healing and hope. Care —
for all people.
”
Event co-chairs Allison Berlin and
Mimi Markofsky and their committee
of 28 Hadassah members created a
memorable evening that included a
silent auction with more than a few
particularly enticing and generous
donations. Among the lots were a six-
night African photo safari, a weekend at
a vacation lodge in northern Michigan,

dinner and tickets to The Tonight Show
in New York City, a gold and diamond
necklace donated by MB Jewelers and
tickets to watch the 2024 U.S. Grand
Prix from the private viewing area of the
Penske family, owners of the Detroit-
area transportation services company.
Brad Schram, whose wife, Judi, for
whom the fall event is named, joined
us for the annual celebration. “She
was a remarkable human being, and I
think she would smile to see me here
tonight,
” Nancy said of the woman
who introduced her to Hadassah.
The evening was made possible
by many generous donors, including
the evening’s Platinum Sponsors,
the Bluth/Schonberg family, Joan
and Rob Epstein and Kathryn
and Roger Penske, along with the
Penske Corporation and Penske
Transportation Solutions, and Bronze
Sponsors, Alfonso Burgos/Edelman
Financial Engines, Henry Ford Health
System, and Jackie and Larry Kraft.
Hadassah is grateful to them and to
everyone else who helped to make the
night so special.
