Nominations Now Open

Do you know a young Jewish
professional making an impact on
our community? Someone who gives
of themselves in robust — and often
thankless — ways? Someone you
admire and aspire to be like? Someone
whose accomplishments you want to
celebrate?

the Detroit Jewish News’ 36 Under 36, a
special issue that recognizes the doers,
activists, entrepreneurs, philanthropists,
community organizers and other young
adults reshaping and broadening Metro
Detroit’s Jewish community.

can be considered for the 2025 36
Under 36 cohort. A special group of
community volunteer judges will be
reviewing submissions and choosing
the 36 honorees, who will be featured
in a February 2025 issue of the Detroit
Jewish News and will receive a free
three-year subscription to the paper.

Rebecca Starr Promoted
at Shalom Hartman
Institute

Rebecca Starr was
recently promoted
to vice president of
Educational Operations
and Regional Strategy
at the Shalom Hartman
Institute of North
America after five years
as director of Detroit.

She will oversee regional
initiatives across North America and
management of national program
implementation.
Starr’s visionary work in Detroit
brought Hartman’s thought
leadership to the community and
addressed some of the biggest
challenges and opportunities facing
the Jewish people. Hartman’s work
in Detroit will continue under her
leadership.
Rebecca is married to Rabbi Aaron
Starr of Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
They have two boys, Caleb, 17, and
Ayal, 14, who both attend the Frankel
Jewish Academy.
