commitment to the way we live our
lives in Farber, in Detroit and what the
Torah represents: an Eitz Chaim, a tree
of life, for all of us.
”
Welcoming the Torah has become
a school-wide project. In early
September, Rabbi Ellis visited each
grade and demonstrated the work
of a sofer with his quills, ink and
parchment. Each student in grades
K-12 had the opportunity to practice
writing letters and see firsthand how a
Torah is written.
Yet another school-wide project
in conjunction with the milestone
was spearheaded by Farber teacher
Rabbi Sharly Digadker of Southfield.
Each student from kindergarten
through 12th grade created a personal
reflection on different pesukim from
the Torah; this collective artwork will
be on display for the first time at the
Hachnasat Sefer Torah event.
“Our Torah project was not just
a one-time event,
” Rabbi Digadker
summarized. “Even after our
Hachnasat Sefer Torah, the Torah we
created together will continue to be a
living part of our school, a testament to

its lasting significance. Like a mosaic,
each separate part may not have
meaning on its own but together they
create unity and tell a story.
”
The Hachnasat Sefer Torah event
will begin with the completion of
the Sefer Torah by Rabbi Ellis. Then,
accompanied by live music and
dancing at an outdoor parade, the
Torah will be escorted for the first time
to its new home in the Beit Midrash in
the school.
Noted speakers at the dedication
ceremony will be Michal Korman and
Rabbi Morris; a video compilation
from Farber students in appreciation
of the Korman’s invaluable gift will be
presented. A prayer for the hostages’
safe return and IDF soldiers will
also be said. There will be children’s
activities, light refreshments and fun
for the whole family.

The Torah procession will take place at 10 a.m.

on Sunday, Sept. 29, beginning at Yeshivat

Darchei Torah, 21550 W. 12 Mile Road, and

ending at Farber Hebrew Day School, 21100 W.

12 Mile Road. To learn more about Farber and
