announce the engagement 
of their daughter Gillian Wener to 
Dr. Benjamin Pyle, son of Judith 
Wiener and John Pyle of Oak Park, 
Calif. 
Gillian is an environmental 
lawyer with Lathrop GPM in 
Boston, Mass. Gillian earned her 
bachelor’s degree in environment 
from the University of Michigan 
and a J.D. from The George 
Washington University Law School. 
Ben is an associate professor of law at Boston University 
School of Law. He earned a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude 
from Claremont McKenna College in philosophy, politics, and 
economics and mathematics. He has a J.D. from the University of 
Michigan, as well as a master’s degree and Ph.D. in economics 
from the University of Michigan. 
The couple resides in the Boston area. A May 2025 wedding is 
planned with Rabbi Aaron Bergman of Adat Shalom officiating.

Laura and Michael Kleinman of Woodcliff Lake, N. J., are 
very happy to announce the birth of Dylan Miles, baby 
brother of excited sister Avery. Dylan was named in 
memory of his maternal grandfather Marcus (Marc) Bess. 
Thrilled grandparents are Andee and Ken Marcus, and 
Jody Kleinman. He is also the grandson of the late Alan Kleinman.

Sept. 13, 2024. He will be 
joined in celebration by his 
sister Sasha. Jordan is the 
loving grandchild of Linda and 
Edward Shapiro, and Ann and 
Jeff Feld. 
He is a student at Clifford 
Smart Middle School in 
Commerce Township. Jordan’s 
most meaningful mitzvah 
project was hosting and raising 
more than $7,000 for his 
annual Jordan’s Great Race, 
benefiting Tamarack Camps’ 
CAMPaign for Change.

Hunter Helfman, son 
of Arielle and Seth 
Helfman, will be 
called to the Torah 
as a bar mitzvah at 
Temple Beth El in 
Bloomfield Township on 
Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. He is 
the brother of Harper and the 
grandson of Nancy and Randy 
Burgess, David Helfman and 
the late Marilee Helfman. 
Hunter is a student at Detroit 
Country Day School in Beverly 
Hills. He is looking forward to 
his mitzvah project: helping 
children in need in the Metro 
Detroit area.

Katelyn Rachel 
Kerman (Hinda) will 
become a bat 
mitzvah on Saturday, 
Sept. 14, 2024, at 
Temple Shir Shalom 
in West Bloomfield. She is the 
daughter of Lauren and Sean 
Kerman. Proud grandparents 
are Pola and Howard Friedman, 
and Charlene and Brian 
Kerman. 
Katelyn is a student at 
South Hills Middle School in 
Bloomfield Hills. Her mitzvah 
project involved volunteering 
at the Ferndale Cat Shelter’s 
Catfe and raising money for the 
shelter by selling homemade 
bracelets. 

Talia Iris Lauter, 
daughter of Liza and 
Jonathan Lauter, will 
lead the 
congregation in 
prayer as a bat 
mitzvah at Temple Israel in 
West Bloomfield on Saturday, 
Sept. 14, 2024. She will be 
joined in celebration by her 
brother Henry. Talia is the 
loving grandchild of Marva and 
Peter Sugar, and Jain and Carl 
Lauter. 
She is a student at Derby 
Middle School in Birmingham. 
Talia’s most meaningful mitzvah 
project was curating an 
inclusive list of more than 300 
culturally representative books 
to collect and distribute to 
students at Wellspring, a youth 

development organization 
assisting urban youth in 
Northwest Detroit.

Sloane Alexis 
Robertelli, daughter 
of Alyse and Kevin 
Robertelli, will be 
called to the Torah 
as a bat mitzvah at 
Temple Israel in West 
Bloomfield on Saturday, Sept. 
14, 2024. She will be joined in 
celebration by her sister 

Harper. Sloane is the loving 
grandchild of Paula and Jay 
Mellin, and Nancy Lyben. 
She is a student at North 
Hills Middle School in 
Bloomfield Township. Sloane’s 
most meaningful mitzvah 
project was raising money 
for Taproots, Camp Walden’s 
foundation that provides a 
residential summer camp 
experience to kids from low-
income households.
