PUZZLE ANSWERS

Solution to puzzle in 9/5/24 issue.

Sider also applied the
Japanese craft of Kintsugi by
using gold pieces along the
rip lines of the image to show
the value in mending what’s
broken as a way of embracing
imperfection and history. The
original photo, Sider says,
became wrinkled and damaged
in transit to Canada.
Filled with hope and courage,

Anna” represents bravery in the
face of danger.
“For me to pair her with how I was feeling after Oct. 7 brought me
great strength,” Sider says, “in dealing with antisemitism and the fears in
Israel that haven’t gone away.”
When she’s not traveling or teaching workshops at her studio, Sider
paints, illustrates and creates ketubot. She’s also a published author and
illustrator, a teacher and a licensed psychologist.
Yet, despite the strong Jewish themes of her latest work, Sider always
felt like she was “hiding in plain sight” as a Jewish person. “I am done
hiding now,” she says of the metamorphosis following the events of Oct.
7. “I’m looking for the light amidst the darkness.”
