38 | SEPTEMBER 12 • 2024 J N T here’s nothing quite like eat- ing ice cream on a hot sum- mer day. For adults served by JARC, a Bloomfield Hills-based nonprofit organization serving adults with developmental disabili- ties in Metro Detroit, an ice cream social was a welcome reprieve from the summer heat. The people JARC serves were all smiles as they played lawn games like croquet and cornhole, socialized with friends and, of course, enjoyed a variety of differ- ent ice cream bars. The recent outdoor event brought together 95 people at Marshbank Park in West Bloomfield Township, including adults served by JARC, staff, volunteers and members of the Elkus family. The event, which was generously sponsored by the Elkus family, was a great opportunity for adults served by JARC to get together and spend a night out in the warm summer weather with their roommates and friends. JARC is thankful to its many donors who make events possible for the people they serve. If you are interested in sponsoring an event like this one for the people JARC serves, contact Jacob Gottlieb at jacobgottlieb@jarc.org or (248) 940-2751. JARC Summer Ice Cream Social Glen, a JARC resident, smiles with his ice cream. Steve and Jonathan, who are both served by JARC, play a game of cornhole together. Volunteers and a JARC staff member stock the ice cream freezer for the event. Carrie and Renee, both people served by JARC, enjoy playing croquet together. Steve Elkus, Gail Elkus, Kayla who is served by JARC, and Ronnie Elkus smile as they enjoy the ice cream social together. faces&places
