OLD-FASHIONED FUN
While Tink Tank Animate is full
of high-end production gear and
equipment — pens that can draw
on screens, a recording studio
with instruments, an infinity
stage for filming, a theater and a
stop-motion studio — Dorenfeld
says there’s zero intimidation.
In fact, the studio’s name
is derived from the art of
“tinkering,” or simply playing
around.
“We don’t want anyone to
think, ‘Oh, I can’t go there,’”
Dorenfeld says. “We want you to
feel like you’re tinkering, so that
you come here, and you feel that
it’s fun.”
Throughout the year, Tink
Tank Animate also hosts creative
workshops where students create
a full body of work from story
to edit.
Previous themes have included
short-form children’s content (in
penguin and duck themes) and

long- to short-form content for
any age group that taps into AI
to help complete large tasks and
even larger ideas.
Most recently, Tink Tank
Animate also filed to become
a 501(c)(3) charitable
organization, the next step
in the studio’s evolution and
commitment to the community.
Dorenfeld says it’s a major
milestone for the 6-year-old
business, as the designation will
allow it to fundraise and apply
for grants to service even more
families and individuals across
Michigan and nationwide.
“I wanted to be able to build
something up where we can open
our doors to a large population,”
Dorenfeld says of the studio’s
grand vision. “This should allow
us to expand massively.”
