here’s nothing quite like eat-
ing ice cream on a hot sum-
mer day. For adults served 
by JARC, a Bloomfield Hills-based 
nonprofit organization serving 
adults with developmental disabili-
ties in Metro Detroit, an ice cream 
social was a welcome reprieve from 
the summer heat. 
The people JARC serves were 
all smiles as they played lawn 
games like croquet and cornhole, 
socialized with friends and, of 
course, enjoyed a variety of differ-
ent ice cream bars. The recent outdoor event brought together 95 people at 
Marshbank Park in West Bloomfield Township, including adults served by 
JARC, staff, volunteers and members of the Elkus family. The event, which 
was generously sponsored by the Elkus family, was a great opportunity for 
adults served by JARC to get together and spend a night out in the warm 
summer weather with their roommates and friends.
