camp’s performing arts director in 2022.
The theater program, she says, gives campers a voice.
“The Walden stage is a safe place to be who you are
and to develop who you are,” Mullin says. “That’s what
I’ve always felt, and that’s what I want for it to be.”
Mullin spent years auditioning, performing, writing and directing in
New York and Los Angeles before returning to Michigan. Now work-
ing as support staff at South Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills,
Mullin coaches forensics both at school and privately. At Walden, she’s
shepherded productions of Bye-Bye Birdie and Annie, as well as Second
Session drama showcases featuring scenes from TV, plays and movies as
well as original material written by campers.
“I think it adds community,” Mullin says of the theater
department at Walden. Participating in these productions,
she adds, makes campers “feel like they have a home.”
