She had a tre- mendous zest for life and for her family. She lost her father, moth- er and brother in the Holocaust. She sur- vived by escaping from a forced labor battalion march and finding shelter in the Swiss Consulate Annex in Budapest, called the Glass House. The murder of her imme- diate family made her value all the more her new family, including her husband, the late Gabor; her son, Robert; her daughter, Carol; their spouses, Elaine and Lenny; her grandchildren, the late Steven; Rachel, Matt (spouse, Alison); and Alison; her five great-grandchildren, Sol, Matilda, Jake, Benny and Mason. She had two treasured causes, Israel and Holocaust education. She gave talks about her experiences to student groups ranging from fifth-graders to college students. In one talk, she was asked what is different now than in the 1930s. She replied that the difference is Israel. In the 1930s, the Jews being persecuted had no place to go; now they have Israel. Donations in her honor may be made to a chari- ty that cares for seriously wounded Israeli soldiers, fidv.org; to the Sandra Bornstein Rhode Island Holocaust Education Center, bornsteinholocaustcenter. org; or the U.S. Holocaust Museum at donate.ushmm. org. In 2019, the U.S. Holocaust Museum interviewed Elizabeth about her life and her experiences during the Holocaust. You can view this interview at collections. ushmm.org/search/catalog/ irn714922.
