undergoing the same transition
and life experience.
With a wide range of
classes, Fourth Tri Sanctuary’s
educational offerings touch
upon subjects such as perinatal
mood disorders and infant
development and milestones.
Its services can also be added
to a baby registry or purchased
as a gift card.
However, it’s not just new
moms who are welcome at the
sanctuary.
Infants 16 months and
younger can join moms at the
center, including for mom-
and-baby activities like a baby-
wearing dance class and baby
play and yoga.
Fourth Tri Sanctuary also
offers complimentary infant
assistance during each stay for
up to 20 minutes, with extra
time available for an additional
fee at the Fourth Tri Nursery.
All staff members who work
alongside moms and babies are
certified as postpartum doulas,

trained in emergency support
and CPR, and extensively
trained in infant care.

MATERNAL MENTAL
HEALTH CARE FOR ALL
While it may seem that having
10 infants in one space would
be counterintuitive to the calm
and nourishing atmosphere
Fourth Tri Sanctuary aims to
create, its co-founders took
into consideration how to both
normalize infant sound and
keep the space serene.
Fourth Tri Sanctuary may
be full of soundproofing, but
Must says the typical sounds
of postpartum — an infant cry
here or there, breastfeeding and
pumping — create a sense of
community.
“We want to normalize
getting help,
” she says. “Moms
find so much relief here that
they’re not alone. We want this
to be the national standard for
postpartum care.
”
Must, who is due with her

second child at the time of this
writing, also knew that Fourth
Tri Sanctuary’s services needed
to be accessible for all. In
addition to its robust inclusivity
policy, the sanctuary also
includes the nonprofit fund
Fourth Tri Foundation.
The foundation exists to
raise and distribute funds to
cover maternal education and
support services for those who
don’t have the resources or
insurance coverage to do so,

as related to the health and
wellbeing of families.
A soon-to-be second mom
herself, Must encourages new
moms to reach out for help —
and to never underestimate the
importance of planning for the
fourth trimester.
“If you’re not taking care of
you,
” Must says, “your infant
also isn’t taken care of.
”
