C

arol Gordon DeVore,
66, of Waterford, died
July 5, 2024.
Born to Marilynn and
Seymour (“Sease”) Gordon,
Carol went to Groves High
School, Michigan State
University and the Medical
College of Toledo.
Her life was characterized
by her creative spark and her
love for family and friends.
A physician in training, she
left the medical profession to
explore and grow her myriad
other talents and interests. She
started a business in health-
care advocacy; she cycled
Make-A-Wish Foundation
charity rides; she learned
mahjong, canasta, knitting and
ceramics.
Through all stages of her
life, Carol was a devoted
mother to her boys, steadfast
daughter to her mother, a car-
ing wife to her husband, Mark,
and a friend and confidante to
many. She always strove to be
better; through her example,
she encouraged people in her
life to be better, too. Living on
Watkins Lake, in the beautiful
house she designed, was a
glorious way to appreciate the
uniqueness of “a little slice of
heaven.”
Carol’s strength was never
more manifest than in her
final years. She beat breast
cancer with grace. She died
at age 66, after a yearlong
fight with acute lymphocytic
leukemia. Throughout her
treatments, she continued to
prioritize the most import-
ant things in her life: time
with her friends and family,
especially her newborn first
granddaughter. She passed

comfortably in her
bed, holding her
husband’s hand.
She will be very
much missed by all
whom she touched
and has left them
with memories and
stories to keep them
warm through tough times.
She is survived by a remark-
able family: her physician hus-
band, Mark; her three grown
sons and daughters-in-law,
Zachary and Elliana, David
and Grace, and Matthew.
She will be an indelible part
of the upbringing of her
granddaughter, Talia Maryn,
daughter of Zachary and
Elliana. She was a fabulous
sibling to Nancy, Richard, and
sister-in-law, Michelle. She
loved her extended family of
nieces, nephews, and the new
generation of great-nieces and
nephews, Adam and Abby
Gordon (parents of Edward
and Magnolia), and Rachel
and Adam Orlansky (parents
of Joseph). Her warmth and
wit will be remembered by
in-laws, David and Christa
DeVore (parents of John and
Drew), Vicki, Jeff Rice and
Robert DeVore.
Interment was at Clover Hill
Park Cemetery. Contributions
may be made to Gleaners
