To Fight Antisemitism,
Meta to regard ‘Zionists’
as a Proxy for ‘Jews’

Free Financial Education Webinar for
Children and Their Parents on July 26

Meta, parent company of
Facebook, announced that
it will expand its policies to
classify the misuse of the
term ‘Zionist’ as a proxy for
‘Jews’ as antisemitic and Tier
1 hate speech.
This landmark decision,
following years of advocacy
by the World Jewish
Congress, its affiliated
Jewish communities and
other organizations, marks a
significant step in combating
the veiled antisemitism that
has proliferated under the
guise of political discourse
and has skyrocketed since
Oct. 7.
“Meta’s decision is a much-
needed advancement in
our ongoing fight against
online antisemitism and

hatred. By recognizing and
addressing the misuse of
the term ‘Zionist,’ Meta is
taking a bold stand against
those who seek to mask their
hatred of Jews,” World Jewish
Congress President Ronald S.
Lauder said.
Antisemites have long
employed the term “Zionist”
to hide their true hateful
intentions, claiming their
attacks were politically
motivated against an
ideology rather than
targeting Jewish values and
beliefs. Meta’s new policy will
help unmask this hatred that
has targeted the global Jewish
community, ensuring that
such rhetoric is identified
and rightly treated as
antisemitism.

Gesher Human Services is
helping children learn how to
make smart financial choices
this summer. A free webinar
workshop on Friday, July
26, at 1 p.m. called Winning
Strategies for Kids and
Money, aims to educate chil-
dren, alongside their parents,
about the importance of man-
aging their money.
Young participants will
learn how to structure their
allowance and other monies
to understand the power
of saving, budgeting, credit
scores and the perils of debt
to help eliminate financial
obstacles for their future. The
program is part of Gesher’s
Family Financial Harmony

Series and is open to middle
school and high school stu-
dents and their parents.
The importance of young
people understanding their
money was confirmed by a
recent Michigan school man-
date personal finance course
requirement. Local communi-
ty bankers will also be avail-
able during the program for
youth wanting to open a bank
account; and children who
participate in the program
will receive a $5 gift card to
Dairy Queen.
Online registration for
parents and their children is
available on the Gesher events
page at geshermi.org.
