A

n Evening with the
Symphony was an event
recently hosted by JARC
for 100 people they serve, caregivers
and staff. A quartet of musicians
from the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra (DSO) featuring three
violinists and one celloist played a
program of specially selected pop
music consisting of “Beauty and
the Beast,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,”
“Sweet Caroline,” “You’ve Got
A Friend in Me,” “A Sky Full of
Stars,” “All You Need Is Love,” and
a collection of five Beatles songs
including “Imagine” and “Let It Be.”
Prior to the June 5 concert and
kosher dinner, the JARC audience
had the opportunity to touch and
experience instruments as part
of a DSO instrument petting zoo.
The evening was full of joy and
happiness, shown through the
smiles of the people JARC serves
as they held musical instruments
and sang and clapped along to the
popular music.
The event is hosted in
partnership with the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra (DSO) as
part of their sensory-friendly
programming, whose effort it is to

make music accessible to everyone
in a space that is supportive to their
individual needs. The free concert
took place at Temple Israel in West
Bloomfield.
This event is part of JARC’s
summer-long The Ellen Labes z”l
Festival Series, made possible by the
support of the Ellen Labes Family.
