A New Frontier for All-Star Baseball
Player David Vinsky

David Vinsky is an All-Star. The Farmington Hills Harrison High School
graduate and former St. Louis Cardinals draftee and minor leaguer
participated in the 31st annual Frontier League All-Star
Game on July 17 in Quebec City.
Vinsky is one of two Jewish players on the New York
Boulders’ roster. The other is Assaf Lowengart, the first Israeli-
born position player to sign with a professional baseball team
in the U.S. Vinsky and Lowengart each hit a home run for the
Boulders in an 11-1 win over the New Jersey Jackals on June
20,.
The Frontier League is an independent league that’s
affiliated with Major League Baseball, but not part of MLB’s
minor league system.

she also plays soccer in the
Detroit City Football Team
club program. Her club
season ends just before the
high school season.
“The competition in club
soccer is tougher than in
high school soccer, which
prepares me better for college
soccer,” she said. “But I really
like playing for Frankel
because I get a chance to play
with my school friends.”
Cela has no doubt
Fischman will achieve her
future soccer goal.
“One-hundred percent,”
he said. “Tamar has the
athleticism that’s needed,
great footwork with the
ball and game intelligence.
And she’s selfless. She could
have had 20 goals for us last
season.”
Instead of 20 goals,
Fischman often focused on
setting up her teammates.
She had a team-high 11
assists to go with her 14
goals.
Fischman isn’t working on
her soccer skills this summer,
She’s spending more
than a month in the NCSY
(former National Conference
of Synagogue Youth) Euro

Israel program. After visiting
several European countries
with other Jewish teens, she’ll
be in Israel for three weeks.
Kleinfeldt and Kahan also
had good seasons for Frankel
this past spring. Kleinfeldt
had a team-best 19 goals and
five assists. Kahan had 11
goals and three assists.
“Grace (Kleinfeldt) is a
good finisher,” Cela said.
“
And a good team leader.
She was one of our three
co-captains.”
Kahan is strong tactically
and technically, Cela said.
Also on the Frankel
girls soccer roster this past
spring were freshmen Laura
Ellenbogen, Tobi Felhandler,
Elyse Fleishman, Michelle
Ifraimov, Leora Kahan, Olivia
Keller, Norah Miller and
Jenna Vinter; sophomores
Sydney Michaelson, Soleil
Phillips, Isabella Shumunov
and Jessica Tracht; juniors
Ava Paige and Natalie
Rothenberg; and senior Lilah
Glazer.
Glazer and Tracht were the
team’s other co-captains.

Stu Zorn is the Talk of the
B’nai B’rith Golf League

The golfers in the weekly B’nai B’rith Golf
League took a day off from league play
July 4. Stu Zorn hasn’t taken a day off this
season.
He was in front in the league’s individual
standings going into league competition July
11, and he and his partner Mitch Lefton were
in first place in Division 2 in the team stand-
ings.
Zorn had 65½ points in individual play
prior to July 11. Larry Shapiro was in second
place in the individual standings among the
24 league golfers with 58 points, and Lefton
was in third place with 55 points.
This is the first time the league’s team
competition has been divided into two divi-
sions. There are six two-man teams in each division. While Zorn and Lefton
were far in front in Division 2 with 129 points as of July 11, the next five teams
in the division standings were separated by just four points.
David Swimmer and Jody Mendelson were in first place in Division 1 as
of July 11 with 107 points, six points in front of second-place Marc Ruskin and
Jeff Novick and seven points in front of third-place Howard Meyers and Gary
Klinger. The next three teams in the division standings were separated by
just four points.
Starting July 18, the last five weeks of team competition will be between
division opponents. The two division champions will face off for the league’s
team title on the final day of the season. The two division runners-up team
will battle for third place on that day.

Two Different Division Races in the
Inter-Congregational Men’s Club
Summer Softball League

Congregation Beth Ahm was running away
with the Koufax Division regular-season
championship heading into the final full
month of regular-season games in the
weekly Inter-Congregational Men’s Club
Summer Softball League.
Through games of July 7, Beth Ahm had
an 11-3 record. None of the other six teams
in the Koufax Division had a winning record.
Temple Shir Shalom No. 3 and Congregation Shir Tikvah were
tied for second place at 6-8.
The five-team Greenberg Division is a different story. There’s
quite a race for the regular-season division title. Temple Israel No.
6 was in first place at 13-1 through July 7, with three teams nipping
at its heels: Temple Beth El No. 1 (12-2), Temple Israel No. 2 (10-4)
and Temple Shir Shalom No. 2 (9-5).
