here are two fairly
common sayings that
came to mind: “Live
for today” and “Nothing is
certain except death and
taxes.” The
former is good
advice though
sometimes
challenging to
follow; the latter
is disproved, in
part, by some
folks if we are to
judge by items in the news.
(They are great at avoiding
paying taxes but not the Grim
Reaper.)
Most of us are not able to
avoid live and dead if we are

to listen for common
use of these terms as
we speak daily.
At a social gathering, the
live wire finds people gravi-
tating toward him; he is a fun
person. After a dangerous
storm, however, it is best to
avoid contact with a live wire;
the results of not doing so
are shocking, at least. Ah,
well, live and learn comes
from living dangerously.
A common note from
those who are forced to
strike to better their job situ-
ations is brought about from
having to live day-to-day or
living paycheck-to-paycheck
or living hand-to-mouth.

In some situations, we get
tested by having to live by
our wits. If successful, we can
live happily ever after.
When you make your for-
tune in the stock market, you
can start to live like a prince
(or a queen or a king). If you
gain your wealth nefariously,
you may find yourself living
on borrowed time.
If you are dead certain of
an outcome, come to a dead
stop before you invest your
time or money or reputation.
Otherwise, you may end up
dead in the water.
Put in a hard day at work

and you may arrive home
dead on your feet and will
soon be dead to the world.
Ever been told you are a
dead ringer for someone?
It is said that there is a dop-
pelganger out there for each
of us.
Sometimes when we are in
a heavy traffic situation, we
become aware of a neigh-
boring car that is playing
music loudly enough to wake
the dead. In the dead of win-
ter, however, when windows
are up, this is less obvious.
Fervently, we hope that such
drivers are not dead drunk
behind the wheel.
Here is a warning: Try to
copy my ideas and you will
have to do so over my dead
body!
