lifelong English teacher, who
rose through the ranks to
become a dean of Davenport
University.
She collected Eskimo art,
started jogging when she was
40 and continued her daily
quest for 10,000 steps well
into her middle 80s. Her golf
swing was “distinctive;” and
on sunny days, when she
wasn’t walking or golfing, she
could be found gardening
in Huntington Woods, her
home for 50 years with her
husband, Bernie; she was also
fiercely devoted to him, and
he remained the love of her
life and best friend. Together,
they traveled the world.
Janet had many friends,
including a close group for
nearly 80 years. Janet loved
her children and was a rock of
support for them. She adored
her grandchildren and they
also adored her.
Janet is survived by her
children, Amy and Steve;
their spouses, Ed (Shenkan)
and Joanie (Cavanaugh); her
grandchildren, Madeline
Shenkan, Jeremy, Aaron and
Jacob Guggenheim (Yi Feng),
Kristina Cottle Feldman
(Daniel Feldman), Peter
Cottle; great-grandchildren,
Henry and Amelia Feldman.
Contributions may
be made to Davenport
University. Arrangements by
Dorfman Chapel.
