T

he Rochester Hills
splash pad shooting on
June 15 was a shock to
the community. In total, nine
people were injured in the
shooting, leaving three in criti-
cal condition.
Those affected were simply
hoping to enjoy that warm
Saturday with their loved ones.
Now, many of the victims need
help, and an overwhelming
number of good people are
stepping up to do just that.
One of the victim families,
the Bebout family, are members
of Congregation Shir Tikvah in
Troy. The mother and two little
boys were among those victims
in the shooting.
A GoFundMe account was
set up to help support the fam-
ily and has been verified by
the Oakland County Sheriff’s
Office. The page was created by
a close relative on June 16, and,
as of June 25, over $155,000 was
donated of the $175,000 goal
with over 2,100 donations total.

“I am closely related to three
of the critical victims that were
part of the Rochester Splash Pad
shooting,
” the relative wrote on
June 16. “My nephews and their
mother were directly involved.
And in critical condition. Their
8-year-old sustained injuries
to the head and is in ICU right
now. Right now, their father is
trying to navigate through life
and being by their sides. The

community has been amazing,
along with the nurses and doc-
tors who are caring for them.
“I am reaching out to ask for
donations that will accommo-
date the family. Their dad is the
sole provider for the family and
will need to be off work for an
undetermined amount of time.
“
As of right now, everyone is
stable, and they will be under-
going surgeries to repair what’s
been damaged.
”
On June 22, the father, Joshua
Bebout, took to the GoFundMe
page with an update on his fam-

ily’s recovery and with many
thanks to all who have helped
his family.
“The police officers, para-
medics and bystanders who
rushed to help us are heroes.
Your quick response and aid
directly contributed to my fam-
ily surviving this horrific event,
”
the father wrote.
“To all of the amazing people
at the hospital who rushed my
family in for emergency surgery
— thank you for saving them. I
am absolutely convinced that all
of your efforts, combined with

the extremely quick response
time of the first responders,
saved the lives of my family.
The nurses, doctors, therapists,
and everyone who has aided
in the medical treatment of my
family are wonderful.
“To all the people praying for
my family, sending their well
wishes, supporting my family
financially, spiritually, mentally
and lovingly, thank you from
the bottom of my heart,
” he
continued. “God has blessed my
family with many miracles over
these past seven days, and I am
eternally grateful.
“My family is recovering
slowly, and it will be a very long
road but I have an amazing sup-
port system in place and I am
so very grateful for you all.
“
An act of evil happened
upon my family and other fam-
ilies that Saturday at the splash
pad, but thousands upon thou-
sands of acts of kindness have
shone through and upon us.
The outpouring of support and
help onto my family during our
time of crisis is very appreciat-
ed and definitely does not go
unnoticed.
“Thank you for your love.
Thank you for your support.
Thank you for your prayers. We
need them all during this diffi-
cult time and my appreciation
for you all knows no end.
