floor of the Janice Charach 
Gallery until June 26, 57 
mixed media works are 
displayed on the floor 
above them.
Both displays have 
themes.
The Fifth Michigan 
Regional Glass Exhibition, 
on the main floor, 
showcases the work of 
56 glass artists as 22 
mixed media artists 
present Rockets, Robots 
and Rayguns on the floor 
above. Artists were chosen 
by Albert Young, who 
specializes in making 
works of glass and is 

known for his work in 
founding the Michigan Art 
Glass Workshop.
Two of the Jewish artists 
represented in the glass 
show are Joan Schwartz 
of Huntington Woods 
and Rebecca Silverman of 
Bloomfield Hills. While 
the Schwartz piece is 
decorative, the Silverman 
pieces are functional.
“I’m showing a piece 
titled ‘Mimi,’” said 
Schwartz, a former 
pediatric nurse who has 
been working in a home 
studio since attending glass 
workshops starting some 
20 years ago.
“I submitted this piece 
because I thought it would 
be different from anything
