OBITUARIES OF BLESSED MEMORY FRIEDA SCHILLER ALLWEISS, 90, passed away on April 11, 2024, in Phoenix, Ariz. Born in Czortkov, Ukraine, Russia, she was 8-years- old when the Nazis invaded her town. Frieda and her mother were able to get on the last train out heading east, eventually reaching Uzbekistan. By a miracle, she and her mother were reunited with her father. Following the end of the war, they were able to enter the American Zone to await immigration to the United States. In 1949, she and her mother, father and baby sister Goldy arrived in Detroit. Frieda married Salek Allweiss in 1952. They raised four children and were married for 52 years before Salek passed away in 2004. After raising her family, Frieda became active in her Jewish community in both West Bloomfield and, after 2006, in Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. Along with continuing Jewish education and temple activities, she began relaying her story of survival to youth groups, school classes and community interest groups. She derived great satisfaction in educating groups about this time in history through her own difficult experience as a child. Frieda is survived by her children, Jack (Patty), Ben and Ilana (formerly Tammy) Moss; grandchildren, Jonathan and Erin (Paul) Lietzan; and great- grandchild, Remy Lietzan. She also leaves four nieces, three nephews and their families. Frieda was the beloved wife of Salek “Sol” Allweiss; daughter of the late Sarah and the late Marcus Schiller; mother of the late Philip (Kat) Allweiss; grandmother of the late David (the late Meghann) Allweiss and the late Sara Sophia Allweiss; sister of the late Goldy (Schiller) Kriseman; and sister-in-law of the late Zygie and the late Irma Allweiss. Memorial services are under consideration at this time. ENID CHANESS, 90, of West Bloomfield, died May 16, 2024. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Fred Chaness; sons and daughters-in- law, Brian Chaness, Neil and Shelley Chaness, and Steven and Ruth Chaness; grandchildren, Taylor and Ross Weintraub, Brett and Alyssa Chaness, Madison Chaness, David Chaness, Samantha Chaness, and Nathan Chaness; great- grandchildren, Madden Weintraub, and Austin and Spencer Chaness; brother, Dennis Lieberoff; other loving relatives and friends. Mrs. Chaness was the cherished mother of the late Andrea Chaness and the late Scott Chaness; the dear sister-in-law of the late Mona Lieberoff. Interment was at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
