they’re coming to ask ques-
tions, they’re curious, they’re
intrigued. Those are the people
that we need to interact with
and to tell the story for what
it is and provide the narrative
that’s not necessarily told on the
news,
” she added.
Zisser-Yogev said Detroit
Jewish community members
can do three things to advocate
for Israel: educate, connect and
support.
“If you sign up for a program,
come with a buddy and edu-
cate yourself and others so that
you’re better prepared to talk
about these topics. The second
thing is to connect. You know,
the best thing that this commu-
nity has done for me are people
who are picking up their phones
and calling me to say, ‘Hey, how
are you doing? And how’s your
family?’ Pick up the phone and
text your friends, your cousins,
your family in Israel and let
them know you’re thinking of
them.

Also, show your support. It’s
not only showing our support
to Israel; it also strengthens our
Jewish community when we
come together.
“I know that it’s sometimes
scary to openly wear a Jewish
star or a kippah because you
don’t want to be a target. That’s
the whole beauty of our com-
munity. We don’t have to stand
as individuals that support
Israel. We stand together to
show our support of Israel, and
we don’t have to be afraid when
we’re together.

The final guests on this
month’s podcast are Marianne
Bloomberg and Amy Gottlieb
of the Jewish Working Women’s
Network, which was recently
featured in the Detroit Jewish
News. If you missed the story
in the paper, you can hear more
about the opportunities the
organization has to offer on
the podcast at myjewishdetroit.
