DOGS OF THE WEEK

Isla!

Meet

I

am a female (spayed),
1-year-old, black-and-
tan wired-haired terrier
mix, weighing about 15
pounds. I have 3 long
legs and a long neck, not
necessarily characteristic for
my breed. Did you notice,
my one eye is blue?
 I went through a
lot before coming to
Michigan. I was found as
a stray, sick and with a
fractured front leg. The
Texas shelter took care of
me and thought it best that
they amputate my leg. That
makes me a tripod! But that
does not slow me down. I
have learned to adjust even
though I am sometimes
unsteady. I love to run in the
yard!
I am terribly thin, so my
foster is working on putting
some weight on me. I am
a good eater now that
my foster mom has found
nutritious food I love and

feeds me three times a day.
I am full of energy and my
tail wags non-stop.
 I love people, attention
and cuddles. I have a new
bestie in the 3-year-old
foster’s dog; we love to
play! The other dog in the
house thinks I am silly and
just ignores me. I respect
her space. I love toys and
will carry a toy around in my
mouth. I even find my foster
mom’s slipper and carry it to
her; in case she was looking
for it. I try to be so helpful!
 Oh, let’s not forget, I
know how to go outside to
do my business.
I am a very sweet, special
girl that would love to find
my forever home. Could
that be with you?

The Blue-Eye, 3-Legged Wonder!

P

uppy mills across the country are plagued with cruelty and
neglect. Thankfully, Detroit Dog Rescue was able to assist
the Bissell Pet Foundation, along with several agencies and
rescues, in the dismantling of a large-scale puppy mill.
Isla was just one of several neglected dogs in this “operation.” Isla
is about 10 weeks old and will be medically cleared upon adoption.
Detroit Dog Rescue is Detroit’s first no-kill shelter. We rescue
all breeds and work hard to provide alternatives to euthanasia. In
summer 2024, our team will be opening Detroit’s first free spay and
neuter clinic for Detroit residents. If you’re interested in adopting
Isla, or one of her fellow puppy mill survivors, fill out an adoption
application at DetroitDogRescue.com.
We’re looking for sponsorship and legacy donors. Our new no-kill
shelter and spay and neuter clinic have naming and dedication
opportunities available at every level. For more information, email
our director Kristina Millman-Rinaldi at Kristina@DetroitDogRescue.
