14 | MAY 9 • 2024 J N S ophia Loren, the legendary film actress who will turn 90 in September, once said, “ Aging is not about how many years have passed, but how much life you’ve embraced. ” The eight exceptional individuals who will be honored at this year’s Jewish Senior Life of Metropolitan Detroit’s 31st Annual Eight Over Eighty fundraiser on Sunday, May 19, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek, exemplify Loren’s wise words, demonstrating what it is to have embraced life while continuing to live it to the fullest. In many ways, the 2024 honorees are still very much in their prime after eight-plus decades of making their marks, raising their families, tackling adversity, making a difference and giving back. “What an honor it is for Jewish Senior Life to shine a well- deserved spotlight on the immense contributions that older adults have made and continue to make, in our community, ” said Nancy Siegel Heinrich, CEO of Jewish Senior Life of Metropolitan Detroit. “This year’s honorees are so inspirational and motivate each of us to do our part to repair the world. ” As in previous years, the Eight Over Eighty elders have been paired with high school students from the Sam and Jean Frankel Jewish Academy. The generation-to-generation duos have spent significant time together, listening and learning from one another. The FJA students participating in this year’s event are Allie Applebaum, Hayden Dean, Zachary Elbinger, Aryeh Gamer, Grace Kleinfeldt, Sarah Krivishkin, Lilly Moss and Caleb Starr. Event proceeds benefit the JSL Quality of Life Fund. This year’s Eight over Eighty Honorees include: Jewish Senior Life’s 31st annual Eight Over Eighty event celebrates special people.
