Mazel Tov! announcements are welcomed for members of the 
Jewish community. Anniversaries, engagements and weddings 
with a photo (preferably color) can appear at a cost of $18 
each. Births are $10. There is no charge for bar/bat mitzvahs 
or for special birthdays starting at the 90th.

Charlie is a student at 
Derby Middle School in 
Birmingham. His most 
meaningful mitzvah 
project is collecting 
gently used sports 
equipment with the 
organization Brilliant 
Detroit. Through his 
contributions, Brilliant 
Detroit will be able to 
run summer camps 
this summer as well as 
support its health and 
movement initiative. 

Daniel Morrie 
Heicklen, son 
of Robyn and 
David Heicklen, 
will be called 
to the Torah as 
a bar mitzvah at Temple 
Israel in West Bloomfield 
on Friday, May 3, 2024. 
He will be joined in 
celebration by his brother 
Ari. Daniel is the loving 
grandchild of Lisa and 
Richard Sallen, and Fran 
and Howard Heicklen. He 
is the adoring great-
grandchild of Arline 
Sallen. 
Daniel is a student at 
Berkshire Middle School 
in Beverly Hills. His most 
meaningful mitzvah 

project was making Israel 
bracelets and raising 
$3,600 that he donated 
to Jewish Federation 
of Detroit’s Israel 
Emergency Campaign.

Eden Marley 
Liss will 
become a bat 
mitzvah at 
Adat Shalom 
Synagogue in 
Farmington Hills Saturday, 
May 4, 2024. Proud 
parents are Ilana and 
Zachary Liss. She will be 
joined in celebration by 
her sisters, Lily and Ruby. 
Eden is the beloved 
granddaughter of Beverly 
and Arthur Liss, Belle and 
Jerry Kohen, and great-
grandmother Sheri 
Kohen. 
Eden is a student at 
Hillel Day School of 
Metropolitan Detroit in 
Farmington Hills. For her 
mitzvah projects, she 
volunteered at Yad Ezra 
in Berkley and packaged 
and distributed hygiene 
items and cold weather 
gear to homeless people 
in Detroit.

Sloane Ella 
Lotzoff of West 
Bloomfield will 
become a bat 
mitzvah at

Shaarey Zedek in 
Southfield on Saturday, 
May 4, 2024. She is the 
daughter of Kimberly and 
Steven Lotzoff and the 
sister of Sam Lotzoff. 
Proud grandparents are 
Helen Levy and Lorraine 
Lotzoff. She is also the 
granddaughter of the late 

Robert Levy and the late 
Stanley Lotzoff.
Sloane is a student at 
South Hills Middle School 
in Bloomfield Hills. Her 
mitzvah project includes 
sending care packages to 
Israeli soldiers.

2024. Sunny is the 
beloved grandchild of 
Mickey and Myrna 
Shanker, and the late 
Susie Shanker. 
A student at Roeper 
Middle School in 
Birmingham, Sunny felt 
that the most meaningful 
mitzvah project was Chai 
Babies, crocheting 18 
hats for premature babies 
in the NICU as Sunny 
once was.

Coden 90th
B

arbara Coden had a 
blowout 90th birthday 
celebration recently 
at the Al Oumara restaurant 
in West Bloomfield, having 
reached her milestone birth-
day on March 24. Her party 
was given by her sons and 
daughters-in-law, Dan and 
Liz, who traveled all the way 
from San Diego, and Andy 
and Karen, who came all the 
way from 15 and Haggerty 
Road. Barbara was surrounded by family, including 
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, high school 
friends and new friends from her new residence at 
Meer Apartments in West Bloomfield. Love was in the 
air, and a great time was had by all.
