lead the

prayer as a bar mitzvah at
Temple Israel in West
Bloomfield on Saturday,
April 20, 2024. He will be
joined in celebration by his
sisters, Lielle and Kefira.
Ethan is the loving
grandchild of Cheryl and
Marc Bocknek, and Retta
and Mark London.
He is a student at
Roeper Middle School
in Birmingham. Deeply
committed to his
community, Ethan chose
for his most meaningful
mitzvah project working
with the clergy and staff at
Temple Israel to develop
new programs for kids
his age that focus on
intercultural and interfaith
dialogue.
Eliza Leah Elkin,
daughter of Mila
and Ilya Elkin,
will be called to
the Torah as a
bat mitzvah at
Temple Israel in West
Bloomfield on Saturday,
April 20, 2024. She will be
joined in celebration by her
sister Breanna. Eliza is the
loving grandchild of Isabella
and Mark Kostyukovsky,
and Irina and Gregory Elkin.
She is the adoring great-
grandchild of Leon
Kostyukovsky and the late
Mariya Kostyukovsky, and
Larsia Soybel and the late
Zinovy Soybel.
Eliza is a student at
Walnut Creek Middle
School in West Bloomfield.
Her most meaningful
mitzvah project was
donating funds to HIAS,
the Hebrew Immigrant Aid
Society, an organization
that provides humanitarian
aid and assistance to
refugees. This was
extremely meaningful to
Eliza as HIAS helped her
family immigrate from the
Soviet Union to the U.S.
Milo Rothberger
(Avraham Mayer)
of Bloomfield
Hills will become
a bar mitzvah at
Temple Beth El
in Bloomfield Township on
Saturday, April 20, 2024.
He is the son of Lisa and
Jared Rothberger and the
brother of Levi. Milo’s
grandparents are Kenneth
Korotkin, Risha Ring, Julie
Dale and the late Alan
Rothberger.
Milo is a student at
Derby Middle School
in Birmingham. For his
mitzvah project, he created
a fundraising event for
Tamarack Camps, called
Kids Send Kids to Camp.

Herman 100th
M
orton Herman, of
West Bloomfield,
will make his 100th
birthday on April 27, 2024.
He is a WWII veteran. A
native New Yorker, he
graduated from Illinois
School of Optometry and
practiced until he was 70.
Morton, an avid skier, tennis
player, pickleball player and
golfer, also loves bridge and
reading. His wife is Arlene
Herman; their children
are Ron Herman (Sharon),
Richard Herman (late
Deborah Tyner), Jim Herman
(Brenda), the late Gregg
Herman (Cathy) and Michael
Herman. The couple have 10
grandchildren and 12 great-
grandchildren.

Jewish community. Anniversaries, engagements and weddings
with a photo (preferably color) can appear at a cost of $18 each.
Births are $10. There is no charge for bar/bat mitzvahs or for
special birthdays starting at the 90th.
