T

he #EndJewHatred move-
ment spearheaded a stu-
dent empowerment rally
at the University of Michigan
in partnership with the Jewish
Resource Center, Chabad, Hillel and
Wolverines for Israel.
Students rapidly mobilized, and
approximately 300 students gathered
at the Diag to bring critical attention
to the current Israeli hostage crisis.
As of now, 129 hostages currently
remain in Hamas’ captivity. The hor-
rors of the war have translated into
incidents of anti-Israel-led harass-
ment campaigns on campus.
The rally also brought attention to
U-M President Santa Ono regarding
recent incidents on campus that
have shaken the Jewish community,
and called on him to implement pol-
icies to protect Jewish students on
campus from a rising hostile climate.
Some of these incidents include
the recent Honors Convocation
disruption targeting Ono, a recent
vandalization of the university’s

Hillel building, inaction from the
university regarding the president
of SAFE posting a death threat on
her Instagram story: “Until my last
breath I will utter death to every
single individual who supports the
Zionist state. Death and more. Death
and worse,
” and a recent SAFE/
TAHRIR-led raid into multiple
buildings on campus that resulted in
multiple classes being canceled.
Prior to the rally, #EndJewHatred
launched an email campaign that
had more than 1,600 emails sent out
to President Ono from University of
Michigan parents, students, alumni
and community members voicing
the need for his recent draft policy
to take on university disruptions
launched by anti-Israel organizations
on campus. Ono himself has been
subjected to targeted harassment.
