PURELY COMMENTARY

control in 2005. Rachel
Baker pointed out that she
had relatives who were
slaughtered on Oct. 7 by
the Hamas terrorists along
with more than 1,200 other
civilians.
We presented Israel in
a positive light, but would
not back down when
confronted with hate, lies
and intimidation. It was
important we were there.
Otherwise, Israel would have
no representation and so
many would remain clueless
as to Israel’s history and
struggle for survival.
We went there as proud
Zionists to make sure Israel
was represented. Given the
mounting antisemitism and
hostilities on the college
campuses, we felt it was
imperative to be there to
educate people and provide
factual information. Our

presence was so important
to be able to present Israel’s
position in light of the fact
we knew the Palestinian
community was going to be
represented.
We credit event organizers
for ensuring a safe and
civil environment. The
participation of local
activists representing Israel
was so successful that several
professors and the SCC
coordinators organizing the
program enthusiastically
encouraged us to come back
next year.
“Creating a display is a
responsibility that requires
planning, creativity, initiative
and a passion for the
mission,’’ relayed the event
organizer in a thank-you
note. “Thank you for the
labor and leadership you
contributed. We hope you
will consider participating

again next year.”
We are planning to return
to the multicultural fair next
year and hope others will be
inspired to champion Israel.
I want the community to
know we are there with
resources and volunteers
should they need our help.
We understand these are
difficult times, especially for
our college students at all
our universities. Ask yourself
how can we showcase Israel?

So much of the world knows
so little about Israel. We are
most effective at educating
those that are uninformed
about the wonders of Israel.
Those first impressions can
last a lifetime.
