EVE KOMMEL
(aka “
AB”) died
peacefully on
March 18, 2024,
nine days after a
wonderful
celebration of her 94th
birthday surrounded by
family.
For all who knew and
loved AB, there was no better
way to say goodbye than at
a party where she was the
center of attention. AB was
a force of nature and the
sunshine in so many of the
lives she touched.
Eve Kommel’s
accomplishments in life
were many. After escaping
Nazi Germany in 1939, she
went on to marry, raise three
children, earn degrees from
Wayne State University and
University of Michigan,
teach at WSU, manage her
husband’s medical practice,
co-skipper 20+ Port Huron/
Mackinac Races, become the
first female commodore of
Great Lakes Yacht Club (and
in the state of Michigan),
become president of Planned
Parenthood of Southeast
Michigan and Southwest
