world. For me, it means a lot.
”
Actress Andreea Shvartz got a call
from Dvorin two weeks after the war
began. “She asked me to come give
my voice to one of the testimonies
of one of the heroes of Oct. 7, and I
didn’t think about it at all, I just said
‘yes’ because I wanted very much to
do something,
” she says. She went
to the recording studio, learned a
woman’s story and also came to
understand the project’s impact.
“The purpose of all of [Dvorin’s]
projects is just to spread the voice of
the females about the war,
” she says,
adding that she then took on the
role of producer for the project. “In
two years, in 20 years, there will be
a library of all the testimony, and we
can go there and remember and see
what happened.
”
They’re meeting with people
coming from the United States and
all over the world, telling them
about the project and showing them
the podcasts, she adds. Detroit’s
Federation has had three solidarity
missions meet with her and provides
support to the project as well.
She says it’s been meaningful to
volunteer with this project, as she’s
admired Dvorin for years after
watching her on Israel’s TV channel
as a child. And it’s meaningful
for survivors to find out someone
famous is going to tell their stories,
she says.
Part of her job is reaching out
to survivors, she says, to see about
getting their permission to use their
words, and if they want to have their
experiences be part of the project.
Beyond that, she says, she offers
whatever she can, such as connecting
them with their favorite actors for
video greetings.
Shvartz tells her sons, ages 8
and 11, that she records survivors’
testimony about the war, and that
when they get bigger, they’ll learn
about it, too.
