ome fulfill the mitzvah
of Purim this year at
Aish Detroit, where
there will be something fun
for everyone in the family. The
mitzvot of Purim includes feast,
charity, megillah and mishloach
manot.
Starting with “Purim Pop-Up,
”
you can invite friends and family
over to your home and make

delicious hamentaschen, mish-
loach manot baskets and share
in some Purim Torah education.
Or you can simply bring your
friends and family over to Aish,
and they will host this festive cel-
ebration for you! Aish will pro-
vide all the supplies. This is an
ideal activity for both families or
just adults. The dates and times
are scheduled by appointment
only from now until March 22.
If you’re looking for an

adult-only activity you should
try “Megillah, Martinis and
Mocktails” on Sunday, March
24, from 5-6 p.m at the home
of Ellen and Marc Lipton. You
can hear Rabbi Tolwin read the
megillah while sipping on spe-
cial Purim mocktails.
Now, for women only there
is “Find Your Esther Moment,
”
with brunch, learn and bake on
Friday, March 22, at 10 a.m. at
the Wisdom Café. We can all tap
into our power of a heroine like
Queen Esther and learn more
about her in the story of Purim.
To make the experience even
sweeter, you will be provided
with a tray of hamentaschens to
bake at home.
Lastly, calling all “Heroes and
Villains” for an action-packed
Purim experience on Sunday,
March 24, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
at Aish. There will be special
prizes for everyone who comes
in costume, and it will feature
surprise appearances by your

favorite heroes and scariest
villains. Bring your superhero
energy because your morning
will be busy with face painting,
carnival games, superhero train-
ing, hamantaschen baking and a
superfood brunch.

SPECIAL TO THE JEWISH NEWS

OUR COMMUNITY

T

he Royal Oak Chabad
Jewish Center is
returning to the Royal
Oak Farmers Market for
another fun-filled community
Purim celebration for all. This
year’s theme, fittingly, is Purim
in Israel.
The event takes place Sunday,
March 24, at 5:30 p.m. Security
will be present. Free parking is
available.
 The Royal Oak Chabad
Jewish Center makes Jewish
life accessible, meaningful and
enjoyable to thousands in the
heart of the Woodward corridor
— and always provides creative

and fun ways to bring the
community together.
Rabbi Moishie Glitsenstein
says the event is open to
everyone, no
matter age or
observance.
The theme for
last year’s event,
which saw a few
hundred people
in attendance, was
“Purim 3D,
” which
allowed attendees
to “go back in time
and re-experience the story
of Purim” through interactive
activities. Rabbi Glitsenstein

says this year’s theme being
Israel-related was a no-brainer.
“With what’s happening in
Israel, we’re seeing more and
more that people are reaching
out and wanting to connect.
So now we feel it’s even more
important than before to
provide these kinds of events
and give the community the
opportunity to connect and
to connect with the people in
Israel,
” he said.
The event will offer different
stations representing
different locations in
Israel with an activity
corresponding to
each location. Amidst
Israeli food and Israeli
music, the event will
include a photo booth
at the Western Wall,
fresh juice squeezing
in Jaffa, wine tasting
at the Galil, falafel & shawarma
at the Tel Aviv Shuk, pet farm at
the Kibbutz and print making at

the artist quarter in Tzvat.
Rabbi Glitsenstein says the
Four Mitzvot of Purim will be
available for people to complete
on site.
“Something important for
our time is with everything
happening in Israel and even in
America, we see antisemitism
going up and some people
experiencing maybe some
not comfortable situations,
”
he said. “By coming together
and celebrating a Jewish
holiday, strong and proud as
a community, this event will
definitely give people the feeling
of Jewish pride, connection to
Israel, and that we’re here to stay
and we should be proud and
loud and not hide.
”

The event is free, but it’s open

for sponsorships and donations.
