every shivah. He banded
together a few men to help
out and, to date, Larry’s
been leading shivah services
for the Temple Israel com-
munity for 38 years; he’s led
about 200-250 shivahs.
In 1988, the couple joined
Temple Israel on a mission
trip to Israel and for the first
time, traveled back to the
place they’d first met. It was
the 40th anniversary of the
State of Israel and the night
they arrived, the most beau-
tiful, moving “Hatikvah”
was playing.
“We were all in tears,”
Carole remembered.
They have three children
of whom they are excep-
tionally proud: Nicole Miller
and Bubba Urdan, Jared
and Stephanie Miller, and
Joanna and Mike Steinberg.
They have eight grand-
children, aged 9-22: Max,
Bella, Ben, Nate, Jay, Emma,
Charli and Dylan.
When asked what they
credit their long-last-
ing marriage to, Carole
answered, “We were always
on the same page. We put
all our efforts into our kids,
who are the biggest priority
in our lives. We wanted our
kids to be happy. We felt
that if they were successful,
we wouldn’t have to worry
about them … Not to say
that they’re perfect, but they
did end up very nice adults.”
Larry interjected, “I’m the
luckiest guy in the world!
Carole’s classy and reserved,
the most amazing cook and
baker, the most incredible
mother and grandmother to
our beautiful family. I helped
a little bit, but she did most
of it … After all this, we’re
just stuck together!”
