Innocence Project,” said
William Arnold, director
of advancement and
alumni relations at Cooley
Law School. “It is inspiring
to have teenagers helping
to educate the broader
community about the
life-changing work of the
Innocence Project.
“In addition to working
to free all those who have
been wrongly incarcerated,
the Cooley Law School
Innocence Project is
committed to enacting
necessary changes at the
state and local level to
prevent such injustices
from occurring in the
future. This can only
happen through increased
community education and
awareness.”
Added Lawrence Katz,
“While our criminal
justice system is intended
to prosecute the guilty
and protect the innocent,
we know with absolute
certainty that the system
is not perfect, that there
are many people serving
long prison sentences
who are, in fact, totally
innocent, despite a judge
or jury’s findings of guilt.
It’s an extremely hard task
identifying those people,
but the lawyers and law
students are working hard
to find them,” he said.
“They are doing God’s
work.”
To be able to advocate
for those who are innocent
and to help fund the road
to their exoneration is
paramount to Eli, who
said, “I’m very happy to be
able to do anything to help
others in need.”
