OBITUARIES
OF BLESSED MEMORY

D

ina Brodsky, 95, of
Franklin, died Feb.
10, 2024.
She was born and
grew up in Chicago. She
met the love of her life,
Herman, at Mendelson’s
Resort in South Haven on
July 4, 1949.
After dancing
to “Some
Enchanted
Evening” they
dated long
distance, got
engaged New
Year’s Eve
1949 and were married
March 19, 1950. They were
married for 54 years. Dina’s
husband and children
always came first.
The Jewish holidays
for Dina, such as
Pesach seders, were fun,
participatory events, where
each family member —
adults and children —
had an important role.
Dina made every family
milestone a celebration:
For her special birthdays,
she planned trips, inviting
all family members to
celebrate with her. For
other family simchahs and
milestones, she traveled to
share in the festivities.
Truly a “Woman of
Valor,” she was known
as the kindest, most
generous and thoughtful
person. Her and Herman’s
philanthropic endeavors
within the Jewish
community, both here
and in Israel, gave her
tremendous fulfillment.

Throughout their lives,
they supported many
organizations, such as
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, Jewish Federation
of Detroit, Hillel Day
School, the Zekelman
Holocaust Center,
Tamarack Camps, Frankel
Jewish Academy, Jewish
Theological Seminary,
Yeshiva Beth Yehudah,
Friendship Circle,
University of Michigan
Hillel, the Berman Theater
at The J, National Council
of Jewish Women and
Hadassah.
While happy to help
those in need through
contributions, she was
equally generous helping
friends and acquaintances
who fell on hard times.
Dina also had an enormous
circle of friends. She loved
spending time with her
girlfriends, both in Florida
and in Detroit, regarding
them as the sisters she
never had.
Although her appearance
was always elegant and
stylish, most importantly,
a genuine sweetness
emanated from Dina; she
was even more beautiful on
the inside than she was on
the outside.
Dina is survived by
her children, Ann and
