died Jan. 29, 2024. 
He is survived 
by his grandchil-
dren, Max and 
Anya Khutoryan, 
Joshua Grossman, 
Alexandra 
and Yehezkel 
Aharonov; daughter-in-law, 
Alisa Grossman; brother-in-
law and sister-in-law, Genadi 
and Inna Bilvon. 
Mike was the beloved hus-
band of the late Maya Nem; 
loving father of the late Vitaly 
Grossman. 
Contributions may be made 
to a charity of one’s choice. 
A graveside service was held 

at Hebrew Memorial Park.

ELEANOR 
PARKER, 86, of 
Lincolnwood, Ill., 
formerly Detroit, 
died suddenly on 
Feb. 9, 2024.
Eleanor was born in China 
and emigrated to the United 
States in December 1938 with 
her parents, Tolio and Rae 
Shaevsky, and brother Mark. 
She was the youngest passenger 
on the ship crossing the Pacific.
She grew up in the old 
Dexter neighborhood, attended 
the High School of Commerce 
and worked her way through 
Wayne State University, earn-
ing a bachelor’s and a master’s 

degree.
For many years, Eleanor was 
a librarian in the Niles Illinois 
School system, where she 
enhanced the academic and 
research pursuits of thousands 
of high school students in the 
pre-Google and Google eras.
Eleanor was an indepen-
dent, resilient and free-spirited 
woman, who was intellectually 
curious and dedicated to her 
students and family. She was 
philanthropic, contributing to 
many causes with particular 
support to Technion.
She was an adventurous 
traveler. In her 70s and 80s, she 
traversed the Trans-Siberian 
Railway, circled the globe in 
a private jet tour and visit-
ed China, Patagonia, Israel, 
Norway, Vietnam, South 

Africa, Russia, Cuba and 
Portugal, among other coun-
tries.
She is survived by her 
brother, Mark (Lois) Shaevsky; 
sister, Cecile (the late Frank) 
Thompson. She was the ador-
ing aunt of Thomas (Marlo) 
Shaevsky, Lawrence (Melissa) 
Shaevsky, and Terri, Scott 
and Kevin Thompson; proud 
great-aunt of Mallory Shaevsky, 
Mason Shaevsky, Benjamin 
Shaevsky and Harrison 
Shaevsky. She also leaves 
behind many cousins, friends 
and a multitude of adoring 
students. 
Eleanor was the beloved wife 
of the late Curt N. Parker, a 
Holocaust survivor; devoted 
daughter of the late Tolio and 
the late Rae Shaevsky.
