New Jersey and Texas,
Shmuli’s story is one of
passion and purpose.
Shmuli received Semicha
(rabbinic ordination) in
2018. He and his wife,
Nechama, spent three
years as part of the Jewish
community in Dallas before
moving to Detroit in 2018,
where they are raising five
adorable children. It was
in Dallas that he began to
work in young professional
outreach and ran the local
Partners in Torah program.
In every community he’s
been a part of, Shmuli has
found his place not only as
a spiritual guide but as a
community builder.
Shmuli continues making
the Jewish experience
dynamic for young
professionals as an educator
with Partners Detroit, a
division of Yeshiva Beth
Yehudah. Whether it’s
organizing sports leagues
(basketball, flag football and
tennis for hundreds of Jews
aged 20-60), study sessions
and Shabbat dinners, or
leading groups of young
professionals to places like
Thailand, South Africa and
Israel, his goal is creating
meaningful connections.
As part of his
responsibilities for Partners
Detroit, Shmuli leads the
Torah Club at Frankel Jewish
Academy, a biweekly blend
of Torah conversations and
good food. He also shares
his insights over a monthly
dinner with students at
Michigan State University,
creating a space for learning
and laughter.
Shmuli co-founded the

Jewish Business Network
(JBN), a forum for
introducing Jews from all
walks of life for business
networking, mentorship
and job opportunities.
Additionally, he serves as a
volunteer EMT with Hatzalah
of Michigan, where he’s on
call to help the community at
a moment’s notice.
Recently, Shmuli has taken
on the challenge of running
marathons through Rabbis
Can Run, an international
organization empowering
clergy members to inspire
their communities through
physical activity.

Shmuli’s love for Detroit’s
Jewish community is evident
in all he does and his passion
for instilling Jewish pride
and deepening connections
to Jewish heritage is palpable.
He would love to
connect and help facilitate
involvement in any Jewish
activities you may be
interested in, and he can be
reached at

DR. CARLY
CYKIERT-
MILLER
Dr. Carly Cykiert-
Miller attended
Hillel Day School
and is a graduate of Frankel
Jewish Academy (class of
2010). She spent every
summer of her childhood at
Tamarack Camps and many
nights and weekends with
BBYO Michigan Region
throughout high school.
Carly worked within the
Jewish community as BBYO
Michigan Region’s regional
director, where she helped

guide many future Jewish
leaders, putting an emphasis
on building rapport with
the teens. In fact, there were
past teens at her recent
wedding! Carly currently
uses her online platform,
@comfywithcarly, to fight
antisemitism of all types.
Carly is a sex and
relationship therapist at
Therapeia Counseling in
Royal Oak. She received her
master of arts in clinical
mental health counseling
from Wayne State University
and a doctorate in clinical
sexology from Modern Sex
Therapy Institutes. Carly’s
passion is helping individuals
and partners navigate mental
health and sexual health in
today’s society.
In March, Carly will be
co-hosting a local overnight
retreat called “Inner Spark
in the Dark” to emphasize
communal, mental and
spiritual health. In this
field, Carly has connected
with many other Jewish sex
therapists and educators.

She currently resides in
Ferndale with her husband,
Eric, and their two pups,
Jax and Turtle. She likes to
take out-of-state friends to
nostalgic places like Leo’s
Coney Island and Marvin’s
Marvelous Mechanical
Museum.
Fun fact: While attending
U-M, Carly was hit in the
head with a football during
punting practice for the U-M-
Ohio State game. They did
not let her keep the football.

MEGAN
ROSENSON
Megan Rosenson
is a proud third-
and fourth-grade
teacher at Hillel
Day School. She loves being a
part of the Hillel community
and teaching young Jewish
students.
 Connecting with her
students is one of her
favorite parts of the job
because she can create
a warm and welcoming
environment for everyone to
learn. In her classroom, she
celebrates differences while
sharing about culture and
connections that the Jewish
community offers.
This year, Megan was able
to experience the magic of
Hillel when she welcomed
new Israeli students into her
classroom who were looking
for a safe place to reside. The
school welcomed these new
families with open arms.
Megan enjoys watching her
students learn and grow and
loves supporting them in
their individual journeys.
This is Megan’s 10th year
teaching at Hillel.
Megan grew up in West
Bloomfield. She graduated
from Michigan State
University with a bachelor’s
degree in elementary
education. Her focus was
language arts and teaching
English to speakers of other
languages. She also received
her master’s degree in K-12
administration from MSU.
Megan currently lives in
Huntington Woods with her
husband, Greg, and their
daughter, Brooklyn. They
also have an energetic dog,
