Sylvia is survived by her 
children, Mark Routman 
(Terry) of Cleveland, Miss.; 
Lloyd Routman (Carol) of 
Boynton Beach, Fla.; Gayle 
Schwarz of Cleveland, 
Ohio; and Brent Routman 
(Marucha) of Minneapolis, 
Minn. Sylvia was blessed 
with 10 grandchildren and 
19 great-grandchildren.

DENNIS ISRAEL 
PENNER, M.D., 
75, passed away 
Jan. 19, 2024, 
with his 
immediate family 
at his side in Los Gatos, 
Calif.
He was born to Molly and 
David Penner on May 16, 
1948. Dennis was a loving 
son, brother, husband, father 
and grandfather. He was a 
kind and gentle soul who 
will be missed by his family 
and friends.
Dennis attended Mumford 
High School, Wayne 
State University for his 

undergraduate degree and 
received his medical degree 
from University of Michigan, 
where he also completed 
his residency in internal 
medicine.
After 30 years in Michigan, 
he made his way to 
California and settled in the 
Bay Area, where he was a 
primary care physician for 45 
years. He retired recently as 
his health started to decline. 
His love of practicing 
medicine was matched by 
his love of golf, Michigan 
sports and his family: his 
wife, Jill; their children, 
Douglas (Delana), Carolyn, 
Dr. Jack (Christine); and 
granddaughter, Geneva.
He also leaves behind his 

sisters and brothers-in-law, 
Sheila and Marty Lederman, 
Linda and Dr. Larry Sandler, 
Susan and Chuck Chupack. 
He will be sadly missed by 
nieces and nephews, Ron and 
Sheryl Lederman, Diane and 
Brian Lonnerstater, Dr. Brian 
Sandler, Dr. Joanne and Bill 
Stewart, Dr. Barry and Dr. 
Elaine Sandler, Brandon 
Sandler, Nick and Stephanie 
Chupack. 
Dennis was the uncle 
of the late Dr. Bruce 
Sandler and the late Steven 
Lederman.
