Games have been held
in Detroit, more times
than in any other city,
where 1,200 Jewish
teens from across the
globe will be arriving
to an event requiring
1,000 volunteers and
400 host families.
“Our aim is to get
the entire community
involved. Maccabi
has endless volunteer
opportunities that
create a role for anyone,
whether you have 30 minutes
to give or the whole week,
a morning or an evening.
There is an opportunity for
all,” Meredith said.
She credits the Games
as changing everything for
her. “It was instrumental
in bringing Brett and me
together as I’m not sure we
would have ever crossed
paths otherwise,” she said.
Brett, 28, a University of
Michigan graduate with a
sports science degree, was
himself a JCC Maccabi
athlete for three years.
“The first time, I played
soccer in San Francisco, and
it was the most amazing

experience making new
friends and having the best
host family, better than I
could have ever imagined,”
he said.
“I have always been a
sports fanatic, and now
being part of making the
Maccabi Games happen is so
exciting. Obviously, I want
to give back to the event as
it has done so much for me.
I can honestly say that, after
Meredith, Maccabi is one of
my greatest passions.”
