emple Shir Shalom
of West Bloomfield
is stepping up and
supporting those in need
with its 11th Annual
“Chicken Soup Cook-Off.”
This event will take place
Sunday, Feb. 4, from 12:30-
2 p.m. at Temple Shir
Shalom, 3999 Walnut Lake
Road in West Bloomfield,
and will benefit the Metro
Food Rescue, CARE House
of Oakland County, and the
temple’s youth and young
adult programming.
More than 20 participants
will be on hand cooking their
versions of the best chicken
soup. A silent auction and
raffle will also be part of the
festivities.
The Chicken Soup Cook-
Off is sponsored by Stage
Deli, Zoup!, Market Square,
Plum Market and many
other local merchants. The
chicken soup recipes are
from local delis, markets and
caterers as well as Temple
Shir Shalom’s Rabbi Daniel
Schwartz and other members
of the congregation.
Admission is only $5 for
adults and $3 for children.

 Attendees can look
forward to unique versions
of chicken soup with and
without noodles, matzah
balls and kreplach, and will
vote for Best Chicken Noodle
Soup, Best Matzah Ball Soup,
and Best Contemporary
Chicken Soup.
The idea for the Cook-Off
is the brainchild of Rabbi
Schwartz who said, “This is a
fun and joyous opportunity
to raise money for Metro
Food Rescue and CARE
House, worthy organizations
that do so much good in our
community.”
 The last time the event
was held, more than 500
men, women and children
attended, and more than
$5,000 was raised. Co-chairs
Debbie Lippitt and Ashley
Sefferman have worked hard
to bring in new soups this
year as well as fabulous raffle
and auction items, including
gift cards to local stores and
a five-night stay at a luxury
cabin near Yellowstone
National Park.
Visit www.shirshalom.
org for tickets and more
information.

Event will raise money for worthy causes.
