MAKEUP
Professional makeup artist Lisa North of
NorthStar Luxe (NorthStarLuxe.com), current
Tamarack parent and proud Tamarack alum, is
pleased to offer $25 off makeup services for
participating families.

25 years ago when, as a
licensed tour educator, she
led missions in Israel for
the Jewish Federation and
quickly became a beloved
guide.
At the height of the
second intifada in 2002,
Naomi helped create and
led the Detroit Federation’s
Israeli Camper Program
(ICP) at Tamarack Camps
and continued to advance
the program for over a
dozen years.
Today, the impact of ICP
is evident among Israeli
and American campers,
staff and host families —
strengthening their Jewish
identity and fostering
lifelong bonds.
 Naomi remains closely
connected to Detroit as
Federation’s director of
missions and the Israel
representative of the
Michigan Israel Business
Accelerator.
“I felt the power and
beauty of our Detroit
Jewish community through
Tamarack — secular Israelis
embraced their Judaism; my
sons, Yoav and Alon, made
their best friends for life at
camp; and I was inspired by
the bonds formed between
the host families and their
campers,
” Miller said.
“I feel part of a global
Jewish village because of
Tamarack Camps and am
truly honored to be the 2024
Distinguished Alumna.

CAMP GUIDE
2024

Master Portrait Artist and
parent of Tamarack camper
Sasha Jade Must (17, Avodah)
Marla Must will once again
hold a Tamarack Camps fund-
raiser to benefit the camp
Scholarship Endowment
Fund. Families can sign up by
donating a minimum of $100
to the Camp Scholarship Fund
(tamarackcamps.com/giving/
send-a-kid-to-tamarack/).
“We as a family are so
grateful for the Tamarack
Camp Avodah program that
we have decided we wanted
to find a way to give back
annually to contribute to the
camp scholarship program,”
Must said. “We would like to
spread the word to other fam-
ilies who might not yet know
specifically about the Avodah

program and also raise money
to assist other families.”
With the success of last
year’s fundraiser, several fam-
ilies have come forward to
share their experiences.
Jessica Blake had this to
say: “Being a camper and

counselor at Tamarack were
such wonderful experiences
and helped shape my child-
hood and young adult life.
Being able to contribute to
the camp scholarship fund for
other children to have special
experiences helped make our
beautiful photos even more
meaningful.”
Geoff Wickersham and
Helayne Shaw signed up to
capture memories of their
dogs. Geoff described his
experience: “Marla made
Helayne, the dogs, and I look
magical, given the location at
the park with the sun setting in
the background. Marla made
those memories pieces of art,
and also helped send kids to
camp at the same time,”
Lainie Sacks felt that “it
was important for us to give
back to camp as the proceeds
went toward sending a kid to
Tamarack.”
