up living next door to a
Modern Orthodox family
she was very close with as
well.
“I remember really
appreciating our
relationship with that
family, and also the way in
which their house became
such a hub of activity and
connection throughout the
weekend and on Saturday
in particular,” she says. “I

into that even though my
religious observance was

Weitzer adds that she
hopes introducing her kids
to Shabbat as a ritual can
instill pride and help build
in them an even stronger
Jewish foundation.
“I feel personally
nourished by it and I
also see my children
feeling nourished by the
connection, and what I
really want for them is to
feel a sense of culture and
connection and peoplehood
that I think having this kind
of regular gathering can
help to provide for them.”
