GERALD TAUBER, 87, of Commerce Township, died Dec. 19, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Tauber; daughters and son-in-law, Susan Tauber, and Lisa Tauber and Kevin Wynne; daughter-in-law, Jodi Tauber; grandchildren, Rebecca Tauber, Ashley Tauber, Mackenzie Wynne and Bella Wynne; sis- ter, Bernice Garon; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Anita Tauber; sister-in-law, Rosalie Rosen; loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Tauber was the cherished father of the late Michael Tauber; the dear brother-in-law of the late Bruce Rosen; the devoted son of the late Bernice and the late Max Tauber. He was born Dec. 17, 1946, in Detroit and was the youngest of five children born to Helen and Allen Tschirhart. Richard graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit and worked for most of his career as a chemist at the city of Detroit Water & Sewerage Department. With his former wife and friend, Esther Ingber, Richard was the proud and involved father of daughters Alison and Julianna Tschirhart. He was blessed with a wide circle of caring and fun friends, includ- ing those he met at WSU, an informal group dubbed “The Ledge.” Richard loved the outdoors, geography, languages, genealo- gy and music. He had traveled to 49 states, many of them while hitchhiking in the ’60s and ’70s or on road trips with his family. He was a formidable Trivial Pursuit player. His curi- osity, intelligence and generosi- ty of spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his sib- lings, the late Tom (the late Dorothy) Tschirhart, the late Lois (the late George) Catlin and the late Al Tschirhart. He is survived by his daugh- ters; his sister, Diane (Aubrey) Short; his sister-in-law, Frankie Tschirhart; many cousins, nephews, nieces, great-neph- ews, great-nieces and friends.
