Federation of Detroit 
sponsors a Motor City 
Mission to Israel. Over 
130 participate on this 
eight-day whirlwind 
tour of Israel. 

The renovated 
Davidson Center 
reopens in Jerusalem’s 
Archaeological Park 
across from the Kotel. The 
Archaeological Park was 
established in 1995 with 
support from Detroiter 
William Davidson.

The Detroit Jewish community begins to 
gear-up to celebrate the 75th anniversary of 
the establishment of modern Israel. To keep 
track of the many planned events in Metro 
Detroit, the Jewish Federation of Detroit 
launches a web page on Jlive. 

Retired U.S. 
Congresswoman 
Brenda Lawrence 
is named executive 
director of “Spill the 
Honey,” a nonprofit 
organization devoted to 
promoting connections 
between Detroit’s 
African American and 
Jewish communities. 

Official Israel@75 celebration is held at 
Congregation Shaarey Zedek. The world-
famous Israeli dance troupe, Mayumana, 
performs.
