stay silent. It’s become
clear that many are
confused and uncertain
about what to do. Here’s
my guidance.
“Please don’t stay
silent. If you are afraid to
outwardly support Israel
because you are fearful
that your customers may
think you are making
a political statement, I
suppose that’s your choice.
But please do something.
“You can share messages
of hope, prayer and peace
to all who are suffering.
You can denounce the
horrible violence. You can
donate to your local Jewish
Federation. Whatever
you do, silence is not an
option.”
Davidson says she’s
leaned heavily on her
partners for support. She
calls them her “sisters”
and some of her closest
friends. The women all say
the Shabbat surprise was
healing and uplifting at a
time of so much turmoil

and darkness.
“The lesson is that when
you need strength you
can lean into your earthly
friendships, but that God
is always there, too, ready
to help carry us through,”
Bahnmueller said. “We
definitely needed the
tissue box as we went
around and shared our
thoughts.”
As the team recited the
Hebrew transliteration and
English translations for
each prayer, Bahnmueller
said the lights “must have
flickered 10 times.” The
team took that as a sign
from Ellyn’s beloved father,
Ben, who passed away last
year. They felt that he was
present, too.
“I think a lot of people
don’t always know what to
say or do. It’s a lot and it’s
scary,” Davidson added.
“What my team did for
me can show other people
ways to support their
friends. I feel so very loved
and supported.”
